</p> <p style="0in"><strong>“Quiet Lions” </strong>by Kirk Hunt</p> <div style="float: left;"><script type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js"> </script></div><p lang="en-US" align="justify" style="0in"><em><font color="#000000">Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever. </font>My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt. </em></p> <p lang="en-US" align="right" style="0in"><em>Daniel 6:21-22 KJV</em></p> <p align="justify" style="0in">The angel snapped his fingers to get the lions’ attention. “You’re going to host Daniel for the night. You will not eat him.” The lion roars were deafening.</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">“If you’re going to respond like that, then you don’t get to open your mouths until tomorrow.” After another snap of his fingers, complete silence fell on the den.</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">* * *</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">Godly people are, at times, thrown to the lions. Often, for doing the <em>right</em> thing. Even men and women of the strongest faith aren’t eager for an eyeball-to-eyeball with several <em>Panthera leo</em>.</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">Daniel landed face down in the lion’s den, because he prayed. His faith and faithfulness wouldn’t allow him to hide. His love of God exceeded his fear of a powerful king or hungry cats.</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">God doesn’t always deliver us from the lion’s den. I wish I could tell you He always delivers us from the lions. No matter where we go, or what we face, God’s will remains sovereign.</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">Quiet lions greeted Daniel. There may be lions roaring in your life, but the God of Daniel can quiet them also. If God has blessed you, the only outcome is additional blessing. At the expense of the bad guys.</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">However greedy for gold, Balaam knew and believed in the power of God. He resisted Balak’s bribes to curse Israel until God’s command to travel with Balak’s men. After his encounter with an angel, Balaam gave up the idea of profits on this trip, or cursing Israel..</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">On three separate mountain tops, Balak erected altars and made sacrifices at Balaam’s direction. Instead of curses, Israel received blessings. Balak was not happy about spending so much time, money and effort to advance the cause of those he hated.</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">Are you blessed by God? If so, relax. No matter what mere men plot and plan, God will make it come out as a blessing to you. We can and must reach out to others with love, grace and understanding. Above all else, we must never become persecutors. Even at the substantial risk of becoming the persecuted.</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">The Jerusalem of Jesus’ earthly ministry was a cosmopolitan, pluralistic society. Multiple faiths, lifestyles and languages abounded. Cities of the modern era may be larger, but are no more polyglot then the cities of the ancient world.</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">Christians preach and teach an absolute Christ in a relativistic world. Our task is to reach out to others, and draw them. With absolutes. Without negotiation.</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">Christ showed the way. Peter did it that first Pentecost Sunday. Paul traveled the known world, preaching this same Gospel.</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">In this modern era, many different paths abound. It’s no easy task standing out with such a unbending message. Nevertheless, it is what Christians are called to do.</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">Christians know what should be done. We are keenly aware of how it ought to be accomplished. He had the intelligence, education and connections to establish a Judaic (or even Christian) school somewhere and live comfortably. He could have taught and published with zero risk to himself.</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">Instead, he lived a life of danger, risk and suffering. Paul’s history, and scars, gave him tremendous credibility among the Roman legions. It appears that Paul single-handedly evangelized the Praetorian Guard, the elite soldiers and body guards of the Caesars.</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">Personally, I find more comfort in the scarred face of a veteran than the smooth skin of an academic. I like living proof that it can be done, or at least survived. I feel better knowing somebody else struggled with the same “little problems” I have..</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">Your scars are a blessing. They give you knowledge and experience you could never get any other way. They give you credibility with people you never otherwise effect.</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">For someone, your scars are comfort and reassurance. They don’t want to hear from an academic. A lot of folks want to hear from a survivor. He tried his best to punch me. Out of courtesy, I tried my best to punch him back. After our attempts to strike each other, we bowed and said “thank you.”</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">The ritual and intensity of <em>ippon kumite,</em> also called “one-time attack,” is an important training exercise for karate students. Ritual and courtesy train the mind. Practicing attacks and blocks (and occasionally getting hit) trains the body. Boxing, fencing and wrestling have similar drills and exercises.</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">My fellow students were helping me to develop my skills and abilities. I tried my best to hone theirs. The practice floor is where we prepare for the real streets.</p> <p align="justify"> <p align="justify" style="0in">Are you content where you are in God? The strongest saints are always reaching for more. The best among us are constantly struggling to reach a deeper place in Him.</p> <p align="justify" style="0in">On the practice floor of Bible study is where we prepare for real world streets. The fellow student asking probing questions and speaking uncomfortable truths is doing you a favor.
