“With Brotherly Love” by Kirk Hunt
Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another
Romans 12:10 KJV
My last day of work with Megacorp* Inc. came and went. I processed out without fanfare. Our transactions completed, the corporation and I went our separate ways. “It’s not personal, it’s just business.”
One of the men I worked with, a Gospel brother, met with me privately. He quietly pressed into my hands a tub of peppermints and a greeting card. “I’ll miss you.”
Acknowledgment. Confirmation. Kindness. Honor. All from a Godly man I respect and trust.
The warmth of his gesture is in stark contrast to the world’s coldness. For the price of a “value meal” he bought, and brought, joy and warmth into my life. As only another believer can.
Life among the saints of God should be full of such stories. It’s the little kindnesses that turn an unrelated group into close-knit family. The local church can be a place of warmness and belonging. If we try.
His token to me cost him a few dollars and several minutes of his time. The benefit to my heart? Priceless. “Of course it’s personal, we’re family.”
There’s a Godly man or woman who needs to hear from you. Find, or make, an opportunity to minister to a fellow Christian’s heart. Take the time. Spend the cash. Make the effort.
Think: What have I done to honor the Godly men and women around me, lately?
Pray: “Lord, lead me to bless the heart and mind of a Gospel brother or sister.”
